Claremont Police Chief Alex Scott addressed the City Council last night to reassure the Council and Claremont residents that Claremont is not in the midst of a crime spree as reported in local papers. Scott said although there have been more robberies this year the numbers for other crimes are down. The Chief went on to say, robberies are not a problem unique to Claremont, but it is a state wide issue due to opiate and heroin addiction. Scott attended a meeting last week with other Police Chiefs where the opiate problem was discussed, and said the NH, Maine and Vermont have an opiate epidemic. Claremont has been active in the NH Drug Task Force and this year one of Claremont’s officers on it. The Chief will give a complete update to the Council in March.
