Nine Newport Residents Arrested in Drug Sweep

Newport Police arrested nine Newport Residents as part of an extensive joint investigation between the Newport Police Department and the NH Attorney Generals Drug Task Force. The investigation primarily focused around the sale of drugs within Newport’s Drug Free School Zones. A drug free school zone is defined by NH law as a 1000 foot buffer around the real property comprising a public or private school. Persons found guilty of drug sales or related activity within these zones are subject to twice the statutory punishments and a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of not less than one year. This investigation was led by the New Hampshire Attorney General Drug Task Force, which is comprised of members of the Newport, Claremont and Keene Police Departments as well as members from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department.

The investigation has culminated in the arrests of subjects from Newport who are alleged to have sold controlled substances including; heroin, marijuana, crack cocaine and controlled prescription medications. The subjects arrested were:
Amy Kemp age 43 Fairbanks Road, Newport 3 counts of Sales of Marijuana

Jessica Ellis Age 25 Summer St. Newport3 counts of Sales of Heroin

Stephanie Matheson age 30 Bradford Rd, Newport2 counts of Sales of Crack Cocaine

Andrea Galvin Age 41 Beech St., Newport1 count sales of prescription narcotics, 1 count Accomplice to sales

Laura Cheney age 27 Beech St., Newport1 count sales of prescription narcotics

Tom Supry age 32Beech St., Newport 1 count Accomplice to sales of prescription narcotics

James Shampney age 23 Myrtle St., Newport 2 counts of Accomplice to sales of heroin

Dustin Beaudry age 30Whipple Rd., Newport1 count sales of prescription narcotics

Sarah Brown age 25 Sunapee St., Newport 1 count Accomplice to sales of prescription narcotics

All subjects are charged with Felony level offenses. Beaudry and Brown were released on $5,000.00 personal recognizance bail and will be arraigned on Tuesday January 21st. All of the other defendants were held pending their arraignment which is scheduled for Tuesday January 21st at the Newport Circuit Court.
In conjunction with the arrests, search warrants were issued and executed at three residences.
Locations that were searched include, 326 Bradford Road, Newport, 16 Beech Street, Apartment A., Newport, and 5 Fairbanks Road, Newport

Seized as a result of these search warrants were an assortment of prescription narcotics, marijuana and cash. Also seized were other suspected drugs and paraphernalia that have yet to be tested and analyzed by the New Hampshire State Police Crime Lab.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges and arrests are expected. In conjunction with the NH Attorney General’s Drug Task Force and the Newport Police Department, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department, Sullivan County Attorney’s Office and the New Hampshire State Police K-9 team assisted in the investigation, apprehension and the execution of the search warrants
