Roy Malool the man who made the Sarah Josepha Hale Park a reality

Over 200 people attended the dedication of Sarah Josepha Hale Memorial Park on Saturday that began with one man. The idea came to Roy Malool, Newport businessman and benefactor of the park in 2011. Malool wanted to bring Hale out of the shadows and for youth to learn of Hale’s accomplishments. Roy Malool is founder of Roymal Inc and CEO of the nonprofit Roy M Malool Family Foundation which benefits philanthropy, voluntarism and grant making foundations.
Malool asked Finnish Sculptor Jari Mannisto if he could do something for Sarah Joespha Hale after Mannisto completed his Tree of Life Sculpture at Newport Senior Center. Mannisto said he got inspiration for the Hale Memorial from different sources. One of the more unusual pieces is a cornucopia that sits on the ground with a miniature thanksgiving table inside of it. Jarri said he made for children who come to the memorial.
