Phosphorus Continues at Newport Waste Water Treatment Plant

newport_fall_banner3Newport’s new waste water treatment plant is having problem with removing phosphorus from the water something required by DES. The plant ran continuously for two and half weeks last month, but in order to meet substantial completion the plant is required to run error free for 30 days by contract. The problem is with filters are getting clogged when run with chemicals combinations being used, and several combinations are being tried. The subcontractor for the filters, engineers, town officials and DES are meeting at the end of this month to hopefully resolve the problem.
