Newport Woman Seeks Memorial for Grandson

Adam Pysz

The Newport Select Board will be holding public hearings on changing the name of Lily Pond to Pout Pond. The request came from Newport resident Ellen Pysz who’s grandson Adam Pysz was killed last November when he was struck by a pickup truck as the 17 year old and his fellow worker stopped on Rt. 12 in Charlestown to remove a deer from the road. Adam always called the pond “Pout Pond” and it would be a memorial to him. Pout Pond is located on the John Stark Hwy across from Rugers.

Please do not change the name! Lily pond has a lot of memories for a lot of people my self included as my dad grew up on Sand Hill and told me how as a kid he did a lot of fishing and swimming in Lily Pond. I even have a picture of him and his cousin when he was sixteen years old. They were on a raft on the pond. The photo was taken in 1927.
