Newport’s Oak Street Bridge Has Wear and Tear

oakstreet bridgeIt is uncertain if the Oak Street Bridge in North Newport will be refurbished or be replaced, that will be decided after engineers take a look at the structure that’s been red lined for several years. Newport Town Manager Paul Brown and Public Works Director Larry Wiggens are meeting with NH DOT this Wednesday before sending out Requests for Quotes for engineers for the project that will be 80 percent funded by the Federal Municipal Owned Bridge Rehabilitation and Replacement Program and the State Aid Bridge Program grants. The bridge has been inspected each year and so no travel restrictions have been imposed. Brown surmised that probably the first restriction would be to limit it to one lane.
