State Delays Setting Tax Rate for Cities and Towns

revenueNH Towns and Cities were alerted today by the Department of Revenue that property tax rates will not be set until Nov.7, instead of mid October. The news makes it a surety that tax payments from the majority of NH towns and cities will suffer penalties and fees for late payment of county taxes that are due on December 1.
The delay is due to a change in the way the Department of Education calculate their average daily membership in attendance. Municipalities like New London and Claremont that bill quarterly are not facing the problem. Mary Walter Claremont’s Finance Manager explains.
