Newport Head On Collision Sends Four To Local Hospitals

accidentA head on collision on Sunapee Street in Newport sent four people to local hospitals just after 2 pm on Wednesday. Police say Mary Mccallister 44 of Newport was driving west towards Newport when she crossed the center line in her Chevy Cobalt and struck Adam Castor 27, or Newport who was driving east in his Dodge Durango with Pamela Castor 32, and their 2 month old son. Mccallister and her passenger Francine Howe 27, were extricated from the car by the Newport Fire Rescue team both women were transported by the Newport Ambulance Service with non-life threatening injuries to Valley Regional Hospital. A dog in Mccallister’s car escaped injuries.
Mrs. Castor and her child were transported by the New London Ambulance Service to New London Hospital with minor injuries.
The cause of Mccallister’s vehicle crossing the center line remains under investigation by the Newport Police Department. Due to the location and severity of the collision, Sunapee Street was closed for approximately 70 minutes.
