Aug. 28 -29 Flash Flood Event Lebanon NH

On the evening of August 28, 2013, a flash flood occurred in Lebanon, New Hampshire. The atmosphere was very moist with a north to south oriented stationary front located in Vermont (see surface weather map below). Thunderstorms began forming in northern New Hampshire late in the afternoon. The flow aloft was weak so these thunderstorms moved slowly to the south. From 8:53 PM to 9:53 PM August 28, the airport at West Lebanon, New Hampshire, reported 2.84 inches of rain. It is estimated that 2.84 inches of rain in a one-hour period is between a 100- and 200-year event.
