Police presence at Unity Meeting Keeps Order Among Crowd

sheriffDue to concerns that discussion of an agenda item at its meeting Tuesday night might get out of hand, the Unity School Board requested that officers from the Sullivan County Sheriffs’ Department attend its meeting.
A progress report on the construction of the new Unity Elementary School was the agenda item of concern. The school is currently under construction and is behind schedule, which has spawned emotional debates at previous school board meetings this year. Dr. Middleton K. McGoodwin, SAU 6 Superintendent, said Wednesday the officers were invited because the continuing discussion on the new elementary school became heated at the last school board meeting in July. McGoodwin said that while he was not in attendance at the July meeting, it is his understanding that the school board felt officers were needed Tuesday night. This story from the Eagle Times.
