Overall damage resulting when lightning struck the Newport Municipal Building on Sunapee Street on June 24 has been estimated at around $40,000 by Town Manager Paul Brown.
Brown told members of the Board of Selectmen at their Monday meeting that the town’s insurance carrier has already sent the town a prepayment check for $20,000 to cover about half of the loss.
The town is still awaiting estimates on some areas that were damaged. Brown said a second cost estimate was expected this week for repairing the roof at the Municipal Building that sustained an 8-inch by 12-inch hole from the lightning. This story from the Eagle Times.
