Five Arrested in Vermont Arsons

Five men were arrested for arson fires on McDonald Road in Topsham and Hall Road in Ryegate Vermont on Wednesday. State Police Fire Investigation Unit was in charge of the intentional fires that occurred on the evening on May 14 and early morning hours of May 15.
Detectives say Matthew Whalen 18, Dalton Harrington 20, Nicholas Gorden, Jared Grant 17, and Cody Ricker drove to the unoccupied McDonald residence located on McDonald Road in Topsham, VT and intentionally set the residence on fire. They then left the residence and searched for another place to intentionally burn. Three of the accused Matthew Whalen, Jared Grant, and Dalton Harrington drove to an unoccupied sugar shack located on the Hall Road in the Town of Ryegate where they participated in setting of the fire that completely burnt the structure. The men will face various arson charges in Orange County Superior Court on July 31, 2013 at 8:00AM and Caledonia Superior Court on July 29, 2013 at 8:30AM.
