Vermont Men Arrested In Copper Wire Theft

Two Vermont men werecopperwiring arrested on Wednesday and charged with Grand Larceny, Unlawful Trespass and Unlawful Mischief for the theft of copper wire from the Vermont Electric Power Company (VELCO) in mid September. Vermont State Police say dmitted to stealing several hundred pounds of copper ground wire from the VELCO substation in Newfane VT. The copper wire was sold at a scrap yard for approximately $736.00 and cost to repair the facility back to its condition prior to the theft was approximately $6,600.00. Surveillance video from the substation aided State Police with their investigation. The men will appear in Windham Superior Court, Criminal Division on March 26 to answer the charges
