The white potato is on track to be the official vegetable of NH. Last week the house passed HB 535 honoring the first white potato planted in the North started in Derry in1719 by Scotch/Irish settlers. Fourth graders from the Derry Village School began the process to make the humble potato the New Hampshire state vegetable and enlisted State Representative John O’Connor to bring the bill to Concord. A debate started when the bill met opposition from broccoli backers. The Senate will now consider the bill, where broccoli backers could block it.
