The Lebanon Department of Public Works, advises residents to check water pipes and meters not protected from the cold and offer the following suggestions for protecting pipes from dropping temperatures.
- Wrapping any exposed water pipes and meter with heat tape,
- Add insulation around the water meter.
The LDPW also notes how to tell if your pipes are about to freeze.
- Dirty or discolored water.
- Low water pressure.
If you notice either of these at your home, letting the cold water run for a few minutes to clear the lines and get water moving can be helpful. In addition, follow the steps above to ensure that your water pipes and meters are protected from the cold.
