NH Congressional Delegates Split on No Budget-No Pay

delegateNH Congressional delegation split on No Budget, No Pay Legislation. Senator Kelley Ayotte (R) and Congresswoman Annie Kuster (D) District 2 voted for the law.

Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D) and Congresswoman Carol Shea Porter (D) District 1 voted against it.
Senator Kelly Ayotte said, “The American people expect Congress to deal with our fiscal crisis, and the No Budget, No Pay Act will help ensure that members of the Senate and House do their jobs,” said Senator Ayotte. “Congress also shouldn’t get a pay raise while the country is in debt, and that’s why I also introduced legislation that prohibits senators and congressmen
from receiving a bump in salary until we rein in reckless spending. This bill also extends the current pay freeze on senior federal executive branch officials.”
Shaheen did not issue a statement but Porter said, ‘The debt ceiling should not be tied to any political issue, no matter how desirable the goal may be. The markets need to believe that Congress understands that the money was spent by the United States, the money is owed by the United States, and the United States will pay its bills and meet its obligation no strings attached, and no temporary fixes.”
