Killington Running on Brown Energy

Green Mountain Power and Killington Resort hosted cows this past weekend on the Resort site at the K-1 Express Gondola. The Gondola is run only on methane from manure from local dairy farms. The Resort purchased 300,000-kilowatt hours to power the gondola year round.
Thirteen farms around the state collect the manure and pump it into an anaerobic digester. The mixture travels through the digester for about three weeks, converting the manure into a mixture of methane gas and carbon dioxide. This biogas is fed into a generator hooked up to the GMP system.
