Balloons and Windmills in New London

Residents of New London may see balloons up in the sky today and tomorrow (Friday and Saturday) over the Curtis Ivey Science Center and the Sugar House. The balloons are a test that starts at 10 am to demonstrate the potential visibility of a proposed wind tower.
The plans for the wind tower call for a freestanding single wind turbine between the Curtis Ivey Science Center and the Sugar House with a height of 52 feet with three fiberglass reinforced blades. Jesseman Associates prepared the plans and a public hearing and discussion of the application will continue at the Dec. 11 Planning Board Meeting.
