Sullivan County Has Highest Domestic Violence Deaths

Domestic violence is one of the leading causes of death in NH with 50 percent of the total homicides and 92 percent of the homicide suicides being domestic violence according to the Ninth Annual Report issued on Monday by the Domestic Violence Fatality Review Committee. In addition, Sullivan County has the highest rate of domestic violent deaths at 1.17 per100, 000 almost twice the rate of the state average.
The majority of domestic violence homicides occurred in the summer months and early autumn, and Sunday was the day with the highest rate of domestic violence. Over 70 percent of the of homicides/suicides occurred between 6 pm-6 am, and only 6 percent of victims sought crisis center services and just 4 percent had a protective order in place when they died
The report presents data on domestic violence-related homicides in New Hampshire for the 10-year period 2001-2010.
