Another Challenge for NH Photo ID Law

The state chapters of the League of Women Voters and the American Civil Liberties Union filed a petition in Strafford County Superior Court on Wednesday on behalf of four out-of-state students attending the University of New Hampshire, Southern New Hampshire University and Keene State College. They argue, the law freezes out eligible voters from participating in the upcoming state and federal elections and asked a judge to block the law’s enforcement.
In the past, students could make New Hampshire their domicile for voting purposes while maintaining legal residency in other states. Although the new law doesn’t require students to be residents, it makes students subject to all of the approximately 600 laws that go along with residency. One would be registering their car in NH. A hearing is set for Sept. 19, 2012.
