Berlin Federal Prison Receives First Inmates

The first inmates arrived at the new Federal Prison in Berlin NH on Thursday. The numbers of the inmates weren’t released but the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FOB), said the Berlin Facility would house 1,152 medium security and 128 minimum security adult male offenders
Senator Jeanne Shaheen issued the following statement regarding the arrival of inmates to Berlin, “I know how hard everyone in the community has worked to ensure Berlin Prison’s opening and I am glad to see that the prison took an important step today with the arrival of its first minimum-security inmates. This step signifies that Berlin Prison is now an official federal correctional facility within the Bureau of Prisons,” Shaheen said. “Bringing jobs back to the North Country is crucial for the economic revitalization of the North Country and Berlin Prison has already brought a new energy to the community.”
More inmates will arrive by the end of the month. Currently there are 115 employees at the federal facility.
