Franklin Foundry Fine by OSHA

OSHA cited Franklin Non-Ferrous Foundry Inc. of Franklin NH with four alleged willful and serious violations. OSHA accused the company of a failing to protect workers from exposure and faces fines of $185,900 following an inspection by OSHA’s Concord Area Office.
The recent inspection found two employees exposed to excessive levels of lead during foundry operations and a lack of sufficient engineering controls to reduce lead exposure. In addition, management failed to measure the ventilation system for effectiveness in controlling lead exposure, and not using respirators when required.
Another citation violation was issued for employees being overexposed to airborne copper fumes during pouring operations and a lack of controls to reduce the exposure level.
OSHA placed the foundry in the agency’s Severe Violator Enforcement Program, which mandates targeted follow-up inspections to ensure compliance with the law.
