Burton U.S. Open Snowboarding Championship Leaves Vermont and Heads toward Vail

Stratton Mountain was home to the US Snowboarding Competition, since its start in 1982 when founder Jake Barton used an upside down kitchen table for the starting gate. The event grew and draws over 30,000 spectators to the southern Vermont resort as well as the Champions of snowboarding.
The US Open is one of the world’s best snowboard contests and in keeping with the needs of riders Jake Burton decided to move the event to Vail. Construction of more complex and larger runs are underway to meet the riders more advanced styles.
Greg Dacyshyn, chief creative director at Burton says the move is part of a plan to grow the Open into a festival. Vail will host free concerts, live entertainment and a mini-shred park for kids.
