Bystander Saves Girl from Swift River

NH Fish and game reports a 12-year-old girl slipped on a rock and into Swift River in Albany, N.H., on Monday, June 18, 2012. The current carried her down the river 150 feet to the top of Lower Falls. The girl grabbed onto a rock and held on against the strong current long enough for bystander James Barnhouse, of Ohio, to make his way to save her.

Another person nearby notified the caretaker at nearby Jigger Johnson Campground and he called authorities. NH Fish and Game officer Alexander Lopashanski, assisted by Conway Fire Personnel, went to aid the stranded pair. The girl was in good condition and was able to walk to the truck.

Lopashanski, urges visitors to use caution and common sense as they enjoy these natural areas.
