Gov. John Lynch signed into law legislation prohibiting state agencies from setting up a state-based insurance exchange earlier this week. The exchanges are called for in President Obama’s Affordable Health Care Act.
House bill 1297 passed the House and Senate with compromises in late May, it does not prevent the state from participating in a federal health exchange.
The original version of the bill prohibited the state from both setting up its own state-based exchange and helping the federal government establish one. Text of the HB 1297 can be read here.
