Gubernatorial Candidate Ovide Lamontagne issued a statement concerning Gov. John Lynch vetoing SB 32 Monday, in a press release: “I am deeply disappointed in Governor Lynch’s veto of SB 372. As the past Chairman of the State Board of Education and as a former school teacher, I am passionate about educational reforms that create more and better opportunities for our children and families.”
SB 372 dubbed “The School Choice Scholarship Act” would have created a tax credit for businesses donating to not-for-profit scholarship organizations. In his veto remarks, Lynch said, “The bill shifts limited state funds away from public school districts and downshifts the cost of reduced adequacy payments to local communities and property tax payers.” Lynch said was the reason for his veto.
