Guns Found In Sugar River

Croydon Police Chief Richard Lee

Croydon Police Chief Richard Lee reported that a 38-caliber 1975 Smith and Weston revolver was recovered in shallow water in the Sugar River in Croydon Flat in April. According to Lee the gun has no rust and is completely functional which leads him to believe the pistol wasn’t in the water long.

The Chief performed a searched on the handgun and records for the piece ends in 1979. The original gun dealer is now deceased. Lee added that he received a call from the Newport Police Department informing the Chief they found a handgun in the shallow water of the Sugar River recently.

Lee hasn’t seen the gun found in Newport and he is anxious to find out the condition to determine how long it was it was in the water. According to the Chief, both guns have markings consistent to coming from a police department.
