Fire on Nuclear Submarine USS Miami docked at Portsmouth Navy Shipyard

Six firefighters received injuries while fighting the fire aboard the USS Miami nuclear sub docked at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery Maine. All non-essential staff were evacuated shortly after the fire started at 5:41 pm in the forward compartment.

Capt. Bryant Fuller, the shipyard’s commander reaffirmed that the nuclear reactor is still okay and .was not active at the time of the fire. The fire is nowhere near the reactor, and no weapons are onboard. Logan Airport assisted with their foam truck and. Mutual Aid from neighboring towns in NH, ME, and MA arrived on the scene. The Navy is sending appartus from the sub base in Groton to the scene. C Fuller expects to open on Thursday morning.

One of the injured firefighter received treatment at the scene and released; three others went to a nearby medical facility and released. No word on the extent of injuries to the other firefighters.
